A Sequence — also called a Run or Straight — is when all three of your cards have consecutive ranks, regardless of their suits. Think of it as three cards that "line up" in order. 9♠ 8♥ 7♦ is a perfect example: nine, eight, seven — three in a row, mixed suits. That's a Sequence.
It ranks third highest in the complete 3 Patti hand rankings:
This trips up a lot of beginners. Here's the simple rule:
Same rank order, different suits — that single difference separates second place from third place. Always check suits before declaring your hand type.
There are 12 possible Sequence ranks in 3 Patti. Here they are, best to worst:
| Rank | Sequence | Example | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| #1 Best | A-K-Q | A♠ K♥ Q♦ | Ace plays HIGH |
| #2 | A-2-3 | A♦ 2♥ 3♠ | Ace plays LOW |
| #3 | K-Q-J | K♣ Q♥ J♦ | |
| #4–#11 | Q-J-10 down to 5-4-3 | Descending | |
| #12 Lowest | 4-3-2 | 4♠ 3♦ 2♥ | Lowest Sequence |
Important: A-2-3 ranks #2 because Ace can play as low (below 2) to form the sequence 1-2-3. This catches many players by surprise. See the Teen Patti hand chart for the full visual reference.
When two players both show a Sequence at Showdown, here's how the winner is decided:
Play with confidence. A strong Sequence loses only to Pure Sequence and Trail. Raise steadily — don't slow-play too long or you'll miss chips. Watch for opponents who raise dramatically; they may hold a Pure Sequence.
Play assertively but monitor opponent confidence. If someone goes Seen early and raises immediately, reconsider — they may hold something stronger. Mid Sequences still beat Color, Pair, and High Card.
These are playable hands but require caution. Against a confident opponent, consider whether the pot size justifies continuing. A weak Sequence still beats Color if the Color is lower, but watch the Sideshow — requesting a Sideshow with a weak Sequence against an aggressive player risks elimination.
In AK47 and Joker variants, wild cards can complete Sequences. Holding 9♠ 7♦ with one wild card? The wild becomes 8 to complete 9-8-7. In wild card games, Sequences become more common — adjust your expectations and don't over-value them.
In Muflis variant, Sequence ranks fourth from worst — the entire hand order flips. Fold any Sequence in Muflis unless the pot is already very large and you have no better option.

A Sequence (Run) is three consecutive rank cards in mixed suits — like 9♠ 8♥ 7♦. It ranks third in 3 Patti hand order, below Trail and Pure Sequence but above Color, Pair, and High Card.
Yes. A-2-3 (mixed suits) is the second-best Sequence because Ace plays low. It ranks below A-K-Q but above K-Q-J.
Only Trail (Three of a Kind) and Pure Sequence beat a regular Sequence. Everything else — Color, Pair, High Card — loses to it.
By highest card first. A-K-Q beats K-Q-J because Ace beats King. If starting ranks are somehow equal, suit order decides: Spades beat Hearts beat Diamonds beat Clubs.
Regular Sequence has about 3.26% probability — much more common than Pure Sequence (0.22%) or Trail (0.24%), but still only occurs roughly 1 in 30 hands.
